Monday, November 16, 2009
Ruth Mbithe
Age: 18
Corps: Kwakyambu Corps, Kilome District
Favorite Food: Kuku, stew, and rice
Favorite Verse: John 3:16

Ruth Mbithe is vibrantly serving the Lord, with a smile you cannot miss, in the Kilome district. After meeting her at the recent Kenya East United gathering, she was without a doubt a youth that should be recognized. In the face of many family challenges including lack of jobs and funds for education ultimately causing her to transfer schools, she is performing very high in both academics and athletics! At the same time, she is staying dedicated to her role in the corps. She is involved in drama, choir, and even teaches Sunday School. Her corps officers speak very well of her, indicating her polite and obedient manner and consistent involvement in the church. Ruth states that the joy she has (which is definitely evident if you ever met her) comes from following the footsteps of Jesus and living according to his will. She hopes to become a Salvation Army officer in the future in order to ensure the development of society and help the needy of Kenya.

Samuel N. Maundu
Age: 17
Corps: Nanyuki Corps, Kirinyaga District
Favorite Food: Kuku & Ugali
Favorite Verse: Luke 7:18 - 38

If you are looking for a youth of excellent behavior and character, trust worthy and obedient, then look no further than Samuel Maundu of the Kirinyaga District. Described as one of the best youths of the Nanyuki Corps, Samuel is pressing on toward the goal for which God has called him. He is very active in spiritual youth activities including Sunday School at the corps and Christian Union in his school as class representative. With a full time schedule and a world filled often with ungodliness, Samuel makes it a priority to study God's word and grow spiritually. He says that being a Christian gives him hope of eternal life in heaven along with the strength it takes to relate to his neighbors and love his enemies. In the future Samuel hopes to become a soldier of God and serve his country by promoting peace. It is his continuous prayer to see Kenya turn to God and be delivered from the corruption and tribalism that is keeping the country from the seeing light of God.
